AMG National Trust is proud to congratulate Mavis McKenley, Vice President and Senior Trust Officer, as the 2024 recipient of the Hampton Roads Community Foundation’s Barron F. Black Community Builder Award.
This distinguished award is given annually to an outstanding community-minded professional advisor; it is the Foundation’s highest honor. Previous recipients have likewise demonstrated the values of assisting others and nurturing the needs of their community.
AMG Chairman Earl Wright was on hand at the December 12 ceremony in Norfolk, Virginia, to join in lauding Ms. McKenley’s accomplishments.
“AMG is exceptionally proud of Mavis’ leadership within the Norfolk community. Her outstanding community accomplishments equal her professional commitment to her colleagues and clients,” Mr. Wright said.
Ms. McKenley leads our Virginia Beach office and is an accredited estate planner, a certified trust and financial advisor, and a certified financial planner with more than four decades of experience. She joined AMG in 1997.
An important part of AMG’s culture is giving back to our communities, and Ms. McKenley’s commitment to clients and community runs deep. She currently serves as Chair of the Norfolk Public Library Board; is a trustee at Virginia Wesleyan University, her alma mater; and is a board member of the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils. She previously held leadership roles as president of the Hampton Roads Estate Planning Council and Samaritan House, as well as chair of the Virginia Wesleyan University Alumni Council.
Virginia Wesleyan honored her in 2021 by naming its Martin Luther King Jr. award the Mavis McKenley ’11 Award. It is presented annually to a student who practices the ideals set forth by Dr. King—courage and conviction in valuing differences, commitment to seeing beyond borders by building inclusion, compassion for humanity, and/or commitment to social change.
